Walvissen en dolfijnen rond het Bunaken Nationaal Park<\/h1>\n

De wateren rond om Lumbalumba Resort<\/strong> zijn een populaire plek voor walvissen en dolfijnen. Op onze dagelijkse trips naar het Bunaken Marine Park observeren we ze vaak heel dicht bij onze duikboot. We hebben geen bepaald seizoen ontdekt, maar het is een feit dat we ze op rustige dagen, wat normaal gesproken het geval is, vaker zien dan op woelige dagen. Dit is gewoon een kwestie dat op een spiegelgladde zee, spotten gemakkelijker is dan wanneer er golven zijn\u2026..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Welke dolfijnen komen we tegen?<\/h2>\n

De soort die we het meest zien zijn 3 soorten Spinnerdolfijnen (Stenella). Gestreepte-, Pantropische gevlekte- en Langsnuitspinnerdolfijn, vaak in gemengde groepen van meer dan 200 individuen. Als ze in de buurt zijn, is het verstandig gebleken om je ogen open te houden voor grotere neefjes als Grienden (Globicephala macrorhynchus), False killer whale (pseudorca crassidens), Melonhead whale (Peponocephala electra) en dwergorka (Feresa attenuata).<\/p>\n

Andere oceanische walvisachtigen die we vaak waarnemen zijn de gewone dolfijn (Delphinus delphis), de Risso-dolfijn (Grampus griseus), de ruwtanddolfijn (steno bredanensis) en de tuimelaar (tursiops truncatus).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Potvissen en Orka's<\/h2>\n

Absolute topwaarnemingen zijn potvis (Physeter macrocephalus) en orka (Orcinus orca). We hebben ongeveer 5 tot 10 potvissen waarnemingen per jaar. Wat we vooral zien zijn de kalfjes met hun moeders en \u201ctantes\u201d en af en toe een zogenaamde vrijgezellengroep jonge mannetjes. We hebben verschillende, echt spectaculaire ontmoetingen met ze gehad en een keer brak er zelfs een reus van 12 meter uit het water, op nog geen meter afstand van de boot! In mei 2015 zagen we voor het eerst een mannelijke potvis. Volwassen mannetjes zijn normaal solitair en verblijven in kouder water. Alleen om te paren gaan ze naar de tropische zee\u00ebn. Ze zijn nog spectaculairder omdat ze veel groter zijn dan de vrouwtjes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Orka's zien we minder, maar rapporten van vissers door de jaren heen lijken in de richting te wijzen dat er een redelijk stabiele groep van ongeveer 6 individuen is die dit gebied bezoekt.<\/p>\n

Elke keer dat we iets zien is het niet altijd mogelijk om een positieve identificatie te maken. We schrijven in een dossier op wat we zien, maar weten niet altijd wat het was. Dat is niet ongebruikelijk bij waarnemingen met betrekking tot walvisachtigen, aangezien sommigen van hen, ondanks hun grootte, vaak slechts een klein deel van hun lichaam laten zien en vaak slechts enkele seconden.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

De meeste wetenschappers onderscheiden 79 soorten. Sommige zijn erg schuw en\/of zeldzaam en er is niet veel over bekend. Onderzoekers geloven dat er veel meer soorten in en rond onze wateren leven dan de soorten die we hier hebben genoemd. We hebben een goede collectie boeken in onze bibliotheek, mocht je meer willen weten over walvisachtigen.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast delen we graag onze persoonlijke kennis met u.
